PETS AT HOME SPONSORS CANINE AWARD

London 21st August 2013… Pets at Home, the UK’s largest pet supplies retailer with over 350 stores in the UK, has announced its sponsorship of the 2014 Canine Award, organised by the Soldiering On Through Life Trust.

The Canine Award recognises the canine heroes that have helped the recovery of injured service personnel and changed their lives for the better and is a highly contended category of the 2014 Soldering on Awards.

The Pets At Home Canine Award is being promoted through the Pets At Home VIP Club and its new quarterly magazine My VIP, which has over one million readers.

There are five finalists: Steve Brooke and Kizzie; Eileen Hobson and Sailor; John Flint and Varick; Susi Rogers-Hartley and Major; and Melvin O’Dowd and Alice - the winner will be selected through a public text vote. Full details can be found at www.petsathome.com  and www.soldieringon.org

The Pets at Home Canine Award will be presented in front of an audience of celebrities, royalty and military dignitaries in April next year at the annual Soldiering On Awards. Nigel Jones, Director of Purple Tangerine, who brokered the deal, says: This is truly a great partnership. Pets At Homes support will make a big difference to the Canine charities the Soldiering On Through Life Trust helps.

The first Canine Award, in 2013, was won by Allen Parton who set up Hounds For Heroes a charity to help disabled personnel from the Armed Forces and Emergency Services.

The Pets At Home Canine Award is one of eight Awards planned for 2014 including: Lifetime Achievement; an International Award honoring non UK serviceman; a Families Award; an Against All Odds Award; a Sporting Endeavour Award; and a Generations - of which some are available for sponsorship. Previous sponsors have included: NetApp; SAAB; Breitling; Boeing; Stringfellows; Cassidian; Atlas; Onedeck; British Bulkers; Inmarsat; Spectra Group; Excel Aviation; Cisco; Pearldrop; Manpower; Jack Daniels; Pimpco; NSSL Global; FusionIO; Idirect; and HCD Chauffeur Drive. Media partners included The Sun, The Sunday Mirror and The Daily Star.

Soldiering On Through Life Trust (SOTLT) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports injured service personnel and their families throughout their lives by giving recognition of their outstanding achievements, through the annual Soldiering On Awards ceremony. Dedicated to those that have fallen and those that are still soldiering on, the charity’s aim is to relieve the financial hardship of people who have served, or who are presently serving in the armed forces, as well as their families.

The Soldiering On Through Life Trust fills a massive gap by supporting numerous armed forces organisations such as: the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund; The Royal Naval Benevolent Fund; ABF - The Soldiers Charity; The Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity and BLESMA; as well as canine charities such as Canine Partners.

Monies raised go to people who are suffering from either physical disability due to injury and/or mental disabilities.

The 2013 Soldiering On Awards were a star-studded affair at the Park Plaza, Westminster presented by Ann Diamond and Mike Read with performances from Escala and The Ultimate Earth Wind & Fire.

Wing Commander, Tal Lambert MBE, the Trusts Chairman, says: Our forces may not always be serving across the globe in future years but we must never forget those who have given their all and who for the rest of their lives must live without eyes, arms or legs. They need our constant support and we must not neglect them. Out of sight is not out of mind for us as we make sure they are able to continue Soldiering On throughout their lives.
